What is Involved?

Therapy involves regular sessions (usually weekly) in which you can use any art materials to express whatever comes to mind and we work through the material that you present at a pace that you feel comfortable with.  There is nothing forced or invasive about the process.  You may want to talk about the images or creative marks that you make or you may prefer to wait.  The regularity and confidential nature of the sessions provides a framework to enable you to feel emotionally held.

Art Psychotherapy can last for a few sessions to look at a particular issue or may last for much longer for complex problems.  There is a commitment of time, money and emotional energy.  In order to gain benefit from art psychotherapy it will be important that you want to understand yourself better as a part of resolving your problems.

Referrals
You may contact me direct but I am also able to take referrals – for example from a GP (family doctor).

Initial Consultation
The initial consultation helps to clarify your situation and enable a decision to be made as to whether art psychotherapy would be helpful or useful to you. The first consultation in which fees are agreed can be arranged by telephone or by email and will be for an hour and a quarter.  Further sessions will be for fifty minutes.

"I have been able to speak the unspeakable and I have needed to do that.  No one has wanted to hear this... the art has helped to put it outside of me”

"I feel safe here and can say and paint exactly what I like – I know it is not going any further than this space”

"This is good for me as it slows me down and allows me to think, to re-member things. These sessions give me permission to feel sad and to talk about things – past and present”
